Medically reviewed by Dr. Maureen Schulte, MD, board-certified reproductive endocrinologist.
This August, STL Fertility is excited to welcome Dr. Kelsey Anderson, a St. Louis native and board-certified reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist, to our growing physician team.
Dr. Anderson brings three years of REI practice experience in the St. Louis market, but also a deep passion for patient-centered fertility care. Her approach is rooted in compassion, communication, and ensuring every patient feels heard throughout their family-building journey.
We recently sat down with Dr. Anderson to learn more about her path to reproductive medicine, what drew her to STL Fertility, and what current and new patients can expect when they meet her.
A Passion for Innovation and Patient Care
Dr. Anderson's interest in reproductive endocrinology began during medical school.
"My interest in reproductive endocrinology first began with rotations in medical school seeing a field so rapidly developing," she explains. "The first baby conceived via IVF was born in 1978, so compared to other fields of medicine, reproductive endocrinology felt more innovative and cutting edge."
But it wasn't just the science that captured her attention.
"I confirmed my love for this field when I began working with patients and saw what a complex medical, emotional, and physical process this journey is for them. The bonds providers and patients have by going through the fertility journey are unlike anything else, and it is such an honor to be part of that process."
For Dr. Anderson, fertility medicine offers a unique opportunity to combine advanced medical care with meaningful relationships that can truly change lives.
Caring for Patients in the St. Louis Community
As a St. Louis native, caring for patients in the community that helped shape her is especially meaningful to Dr. Anderson.
"It is such a great joy to have the opportunity to practice medicine in my hometown," says Dr. Anderson. "Growing up here has instilled a deep appreciation for the people and values of our town, and to be able to care for patients here is both a privilege and a responsibility."
Having already spent the past several years practicing medicine in the St. Louis area, Dr. Anderson has developed a deep appreciation for the families and communities she serves.
She is especially excited to join a locally owned St. Louis fertility clinic that shares her commitment to making a positive impact close to home.
"The honor of being able to work for a locally owned practice where I feel like we can make a real difference in the community excites me more than anything."
And while she is passionate about fertility care, don't be surprised if conversations occasionally turn to St. Louis sports or local restaurants.
"Although a bigger city, St. Louis will always have a small-town vibe. I will always be discussing how the St. Louis sports teams are doing and where is the best place to eat post-transfer!"
Why STL Fertility?
When Dr. Anderson began considering where she wanted to continue her career, STL Fertility immediately stood out.
"As a St. Louis native, a woman-led and physician-owned group attracted me the most because I feel like I can make a real and lasting effect on people around me."
She was also drawn to the practice's culture and commitment to personalized care.
"The practice environment is so warm and welcoming, and you immediately feel this when you walk through the doors. Whether you are staff or a patient, it feels like a family."
For Dr. Anderson, the difference extends beyond the atmosphere.
"Patients are seen by their providers, treatment plans are individualized and thorough, and you feel like your voice is heard. It is an honor to have the opportunity to work at this type of practice."
A Patient-First Philosophy
At the heart of Dr. Anderson's approach are three core principles: compassion, empathy, and communication.
"My core principles are compassion, empathy, and communication, and you feel that every step of the way at STL Fertility."
She believes every patient deserves to understand their treatment plan, feel supported throughout the process, and know that their concerns matter.
"'Patients first—always' has always been at the forefront for me, and I am so excited to work at a practice that embodies that slogan."
Areas of Special Interest: PMOS, Cost-Effective Fertility Treatment, and Patient-Centered Care
Dr. Anderson is particularly passionate about caring for patients with polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS, formerly PCOS), as well as helping patients navigate fertility treatment in a thoughtful and cost-effective way.
"My passions include PMOS, cost-effective treatments, and patient satisfaction," she says.
She recognizes that every fertility journey is different and believes treatment should reflect each patient's unique goals and circumstances.
"I approach each patient experience differently because every person has had a unique journey and has unique desires for their family building."
What Patients Can Expect
When asked what she hopes patients feel after their first appointment with a fertility specialist, Dr. Anderson's answer reflects her commitment to listening first.
"Firstly, I want patients to feel heard and not that they are another number."
She begins each consultation by inviting patients to share their story in their own words.
"I always start by asking them to tell me about their journey so patients can explain exactly what they have done and felt so far."
Her goal is for patients to leave with more than just information—they should leave with clarity.
"I want them to feel like they have learned more about their specific situation than they could find through Dr. Google."
Most importantly, she wants every patient to leave knowing exactly what comes next.
"The fertility journey can be a roller coaster of unknowns, so I hope I can take away some of those unknowns and put patients a little more at ease."
A Message to Those Feeling Discouraged
For individuals and couples struggling to conceive, Dr. Anderson wants them to know they are not alone.
"Struggling to conceive can be an incredibly isolating and emotional experience, and there is no wrong emotion to have about your journey."
She understands that many patients begin their family-building journey expecting things to happen quickly and can feel overwhelmed when they don't.
"My message is that you do not have to navigate this journey alone. There are often more options, resources, and reasons for hope than patients realize when they first walk through the door."
Above all, she wants patients to remember that fertility challenges do not define them.
"Your worth is not defined by a diagnosis, a test result, or the timeline of your journey."
Dr. Anderson strongly believes in STL Fertility’s commitment to supporting patients throughout their fertility journey with compassionate care, helpful patient resources, and answers to common IVF FAQs.
"In our office, you will find kindness, compassion, and empathy to help you through those dark days. My goal is to help patients feel heard, supported, and empowered about their family building."
